A bridal beauty timeline: what to book, and when

From the first hair and makeup trial to the morning of the wedding: a simple countdown for brides and the people getting ready with them.

Wedding beauty goes wrong in the same few ways: something new tried too close to the day, a trial booked too late, or nobody sure who is being done when on the morning. A timeline fixes most of it. Every wedding is different, so treat these as rough guides and ask your artists what they recommend.

Two to three months before

  • Choose your makeup artist and hairstylist, and ask whether they travel to you on the day.
  • Book the trial. Popular bridal artists fill their wedding season early.
  • If you want a colour change, start now, so there is time to adjust it.

Six to eight weeks before

  • Have the hair and makeup trial, ideally with your outfit colours and jewellery to hand, and take photos in daylight.
  • Settle on skin treatments. Anything new to your skin belongs this early, not in the last week.

Two to four weeks before

  • Final colour and cut, so it has a little time to settle.
  • Book the bridal party’s appointments and write down who is being done in what order.

The last week

  • Brows, waxing or threading a few days ahead, so any redness has gone.
  • Nails two days or so before.
  • Nothing new for your skin: no fresh treatments, peels or products.

The morning

Arrive or be ready with clean, dry hair unless your stylist asked otherwise, and a clean face. Build in more time than you think; the last person in the chair always runs late.

Good to know: On Saloonly you can book trials and the smaller pre-wedding appointments online at salons near you. For the day itself, talk to your artist directly about timings and travel.
